
East London Railway Company
Incorporated on 26th May 1865
A line to connect the North and South rail networks via the Thames Tunnel (built by Sir Mark Isambard Brunel). The East London company bought the Thames Tunnel and adapted it as necessary. The line was worked by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, and later leased to them jointly with the South Eastern, the District, the Metropolitan and the London, Chatham and Dover railways.
Original Capital £1,400,000 loans £466,600. Capital by 1890: £3,245,000 in consolidated stock and £2,299,466 in debenture stock.
