East Suffolk Railway Company
Incorporated on 3rd July 1854
A line running between Beccles and Halesworth, having been originally incorporated as the Halesworth, Beccles and Haddiscoe Railway in 1851. The line was opened by the new company in 1854, and authorised to extend to Lowestoft and to double the lines with new capital. The company took over the Lowestoft and Beccles Railway and the Yarmouth and Haddiscoe Railway, both of which it was connected with, thus extending its route. It opened throughout in 1859 and was leased to the Eastern Counties Railway.
Original Capital £450,000 in shares of £20 each, loans of £150,000. Extension capital £360,000 and £120,000 on mortgage. New stock raised in 1859 taking the total share capital to £1,020,000.
