
Royston and Hitchin Railway Company
Incorporated on 16th July 1846. A 13 mile line and 4 mile ‘Shepreth Extension’, only part of the original planned line which was to run between the towns, and form part of the Cambridge and Oxford Railway. It passed to the Great Northern Railway in 1850 and opened the following year.
Original capital of £800,000. In 1847 reduced to £346,666 and loans of £115,466. Share value reduced from £25 to £6.5s in 1851, leaving total capital at £266,675.
