Isle of Wight Railway Company
Incorporated on 23rd July 1860.
Proposed to build a line from Ryde to Ventnor. An 8 mile line from Ryde to Shanklin was opened in 1864, and later extended on to Ventnor totalling 12 miles in 1866. Other branches were authorised but soon abandoned due to lack of finances. The line was amalgamated with the Southern Railway in 1923.
Original capital £125,000 in shares of £10 each. Loans of £41,600. Total capital in 1890 over £400,000.
