London and Greenwich Railway Company
Incorporated on 17th May 1833.
A line to connect Deptford and Greenwich with the capital. The first railway to operate in London (closely followed by the London and Birmingham), it first opened in 1836 and throughout by 1840. The line was leased to the South Eastern Railway from 1845, and passed to the Southern Railway network.
Original capital £400,000 in £20 shares and £133,000 in loans.
Increased by the issue of 5% guaranteed preference Shares of £20 each.
Total capital in 1890 £1,084,260 in stock and shares, and £224,860 in loans.
