London, Tilbury and Southend Railway Company
Incorporated on 16th May 1862.
A line linking the towns, originally funded by the Eastern Counties and London and Blackwall Railways, which opened in 1854. The independent line passed to the Midland Railway in 1912, and formed part of the London, Midland and Scottish group from 1923.
Original capital £400,000 and loans of £100,000. New capital raised for extensions in 1882 of £600,000 and loans of £200,000, this followed by many more throughout the 1880’s. Total capital in 1890 £2,815,642 in stock, shares and loans.
