Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway Company
Incorporated on 2nd July 1819.
Built in the 4ft 6in gauge, running from the port of Plymouth (or the Plym Estuary) to Princetown, on Dartmoor. It opened in 1823 as a toll railway for horse-drawn wagons. As other railways entered the area, the line began to decline, and one section was used in the later Princetown Railway (1878) in the 1880’s. The remainder of the P&D line passed to the Southern Railway in 1921.
