Port Carlisle Railway Company
Incorporated on 4th August 1853.
An 11 mile line, built on the route of an old canal from Carlisle to Solway Firth (previously owned by the Carlisle Canal Co.). It opened in 1854, and passed to the North British Railway in 1880.
Original Capital (Carlisle Canal Co.) £80,000 in shares of £50 each, loans of £40,000. Capital increased by £35,000 in 1853 when the company was re-incorporated as the above, total capital £105,600, and loans totalling £73,537 (including numerous increases).
