Stanhope and Tyne Rail Road Company
Incorporated circa 1834.
A mineral line linking Stanhope, County Durham with the River Tyne in South Shields. The 33 mile line used a combination of horse power, stationary engines and steam traction. It fell into financial difficulty and was dissolved in 1841 and replaced by the Pontop and South Shields company which took on the debt of the original undertaking.
Capital £150,000 and loans of £440,000.
