
Taff Vale Railway Company
Incorporated on 21st June 1836.
A line running 25 miles between the new docks at Cardiff and mineral works in the Merthyr Tydfill area. It opened in 1840, and leased the Aberdare Railway from 1848 followed by numerous others, the railway eventually having 23 branches in total. It passed to the Great Western Railway at grouping.
Original capital £300,000 in shares of £100 each, loans of £100,000. Capital amounts were increased numerous times and the stock consolidated in 1889. Total capital at time of consolidation £6,652,247 (not including debenture stock).
