Thomas A. Edison, Jr. and William Holzer Steel & Iron Process Company
Incorporated in West Virginia in 1898. The company developed a method of steel processing that Thomas A. Edison, Jr. created with his uncle, William Holzer. Holzer had worked for Thomas Edison Sr. at Menlo Park 20 years earlier. Although Bethlehem Steel Company expressed some interest, the process was never adopted and the company collapsed in litigation. Thomas A. Edison, Jr. was born on January 10, 1876 to Edison’s first wife, Mary Stilwell. He had a difficult upbringing and was estranged from his father. Although he tried to capitalize on his name, his ventures always ended in failure and by the turn of the century he was apparently passing bad checks and drinking heavily. His father was not happy with his use of his famous name in failed ventures so in 1903 an agreement was signed whereby the younger Edison will not use his own name in any business enterprise in exchange for a weekly allowance of $35, increased to $50 in 1906.
Capital $1,000,000 in shares of $100.
