Description
The bank was founded in 1871 by the leading businessman Alexei Kirillovitch Altchevskij as the first joint-stock mortgage bank in the Russian Empire. Mortgage bonds were secured on lands in various local governments and in the province of the Don Cossacks.
The 1902 shares were issued after the personal bankruptcy of Altchevskij in 1901. To save the bank, Moscow-based businessman Rjabuchinskij (owner of the ‘Moscow Bank’) intervened and rescued the bank. Shareholders could exchange their shares (of the 11 previous issues) for these new ones. (Source: Boone Shares, April 2022)
