Croydon, Merstham and Godstone Iron Railway Company
Incorporated on 17th May 1803
A continuation of the Surrey Iron Railway which opened the same year. The line was not fully constructed due to higher costs than were estimated, and so ran from Croydon to Merstham only. In 1837 the London and Brighton Railway bought the line, and closed it down as required by their Act of Incorporation. This company built a new line to Brighton on much of the original route.
Capital £60,000 in shares and loans of £30,000.
