Created in 1823, originally known as the United Provinces of Central America it consisted of the the present State of Chiapas, in Mexico and present day Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, as well as parts of Belize. The individual States began to break away in the later 1830’s and the Republic finally ceased when the last State, El Salvador declared independence in 1841.
