Records where place of business is China
This is a complicated country as far as the bonds and shares are concerned. Records are not very good and many loans and issues were made without the knowledge of Central Government. Companies also were quite loosely controlled with many taking advantage of the Hong Kong companies Acts.
Much investment capital came from the European powers and stock exchanges tended to be controlled by European brokers so language much of the time is in the European Latin languages as well as Chinese, with English being predominant.
There are many certificates issued using Chinese characters only and these will be very difficult to list because translations can vary. Also there were many thousands of characters! We would estimate that we will need 2000-3000 characters for this work.
We have used the Wade-Giles method of Romanization of the Chinese rather than the modern Pinyin as this was almost always used in the business community. Therefore, for instance, if you are looking for items from Guangdong you should always use the traditional name of Kwangtung as was used before 1949.
We hope to bring some common words as used on certificates shortly!
