Short lived reworking of the Lloyd’s copper mine at Burraga, Bathurst district, New South Wales, Australia.
1916
Description
Formed to acquire the mine and processing works that had previously belonged to the “Lloyd” Copper Co., Ltd. The reworking centred on the demand for copper from the British government which had agreed to purchase all the copper output from Australia. Production was restarted in 1916 but efforts where hampered due to the remote location of the mine and the effect the rainy season had on transport. This period of working was short lived with the processing plant being closed down by August 1918 but with men still underground breaking ore. This was due to the British government no longer purchasing all the copper that was being produced leading to a glut on the world market. The mine was closed by January 1919 and all remaining supplies of value where sold in various sales until April 1921.
