Chignecto Marine Transport Railway Company Limited
Formed by Act of Canadian Parliament in 1882 to transport shipping across the isthmus of Chignecto by using a hydraulic lift to raise them from the water. The line was to be 17 miles long. Got into financial difficulties soon after construction had begun after the collapse of Barings Bank in 1890 who were backing the project. The Canadian Government failed to extend the contract for the company who had managed to complete three quarters of the work and the company was put into liquidation.
Capital £400,000 in 15,000 preferred shares of £20 and 5,000 ordinary shares of £20.
