
Ionian Bank (Limited)
Incorporated in 1839 to trade between the Ionian Islands and Great Britain. Head office moved to Athens in 1873 and expanded throughout Greece and the Mediterranean. Acquired the Popular bank in 1938. Renamed Ionian and Popular Bank.
Original capital in shares of £25. By 1924 capital had become £600,000 in shares of £5. Increased about 1930 to £1,000,000 in shares of £5.
