Description
Formed in 1913 to acquire the health resort of ‘Caucasus Riviera’, in the Black Sea town of Sochi. It was only at the end 19th, beginning of the 20th century that Sochi began to become the important health resort it is today. The building of dachas, hotels, clinics and the first sanatorium/health resort establishments changed the town forever, and added parks and gardens. Sochi was very popular with the communist hierarchy, and was strongly promoted by them as the prime health resort in the Soviet Union; the number of Soviet citizens receiving treatment at the principal source (Matsesta) rose from a few thousand a year before 1917 to 400.000 in 1930 (including Stalin). Now, it has become open to all, and extremely popular. It was the host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Large format share, with fine large photographic vignette of the resort.
