The company was founded to acquire (from the Perm Corporation) the entire share capital of the Kyshtim Mining Works, a Russian company established in 1900. Initial capital was £1,000,000 in shares of £1.

The company mined for copper, gold and iron in the 2198 square mile Kyschtim estate, near Ekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains. Herbert Hoover, a mining engineer (later to become US President), played a significant role in the Kyshtim Corp. from late 1909 onwards.
