Betty Joel Limited
Founded by Betty Joel in 1927 with her husband David and based in a workshop at Hayling Island, near Portsmouth. Joel was a furniture designer of some repute with her own unique style. Shop opened later in Knightsbridge, London and a larger factory acquired in Kingston-upon-Thames. Her design work also encompassed textiles, glass and ceramics and a complete bedroom design was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1935. She retired in 1938 and the company renamed David Joel Limited.
