
Brighton and Dyke Railway Company
Incorporated on 2nd August 1877
A short line from the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway to the tourist attraction Devil’s Dyke. The Act was allowed to lapse and was not revived until 1881, the line opened in 1887 and carried passengers to the Dyke where the Steep Grade Railway was located. The line was financially un-successful and closed to traffic in 1928.
Capital £72,000 in shares of £10 each. Loans of £24,000. Capital reduced by £17,000 in 1867.
