Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport (Isle of Wight) Railway Company
Incorporated on 26th August 1880. (First company originally incorporated in 1873, but abandoned in 1877).
A 13½ mile line connecting the towns with the Cowes and Newport Railway. It opened in 1889 and was worked by numerous other railways both on the Isle and by mainland companies, with rolling stock provided by the Isle of Wight Central Railway. The company became financially independent in 1913 but was quickly bankrupt, and amalgamated with Southern Railway in 1923.
Original Capital £100,000 in shares of £10 each, and loans of £33,300. Additional raised in 1883 of £42,000 and loans of £14,000, and again in 1889 of £36,000 and £12,000 respectively.
