Great North of England Railway Company
Incorporated on 4th July 1836
A 44 mile line running from York to Darlington (originally planned to Newcastle but this section was authorised later in 1837). The original section of the line was leased by 6 separate companies and was finally extended to Newcastle by the Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway (1842). This company absorbed the entire line and later joined with the Great North of England to form the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway.
Capital £1,450,000 divided into 6,690 Whole Shares of £100 each, 7,500 New Shares of £40 each, 10,000 New Shares of £30 each, and 10,000 Shares of £15 each. Loans of £480,000.
