John Abbot and Company Ltd
Founded by Joseph Abbot in Gateshead in 1776, succeeded by his son John Abbot in 1812 who enlarged the business. Park Works established in 1836 with brass and iron foundries, machine shops and smithies with anchor works and chain cable works added later. The company also manufactured safety lamps. The works had a connection to the North-Eastern Railway Company, and a water frontage to the river Tyne.This company formed in 1864. In liquidation in 1909. Company number 1473AC
