Leicester and Swannington Railway Company
Incorporated on 29th May 1830.
A 16 mile line linking the town of Swannington to the River Soar in Leicester. Its purpose was to improve business for the Whitwick Colliery which company was losing trade to other merchants in the area due to canal links. Built by George and Robert Stephenson, the line opened in 1832 and was sold to the Midland Railway in 1846.
Capital £90,000 in shares and loans of £20,000. Later increased to £175,000 in total.
