
Liverpool, St. Helens and South Lancashire Railway Company
Incorporated on 26th July 1889.
Originally formed on 22nd July 1885 as the St. Helens and Wigan Junction Railway, connecting St. Helens to Lowton (and the Wigan Junction Railway). It was proposed to reach Liverpool but this section was never built. The line did not open until 1895 for freight only and was worked by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. Passenger services commenced in 1900, but the line was closed by 1952, having passed to the Great Central Railway in 1905.
Original capital £550,000 in £10 shares and loans of £183,000.
