
London and Croydon Railway Company
Incorporated on 14th July 1835.
A 10 mile line connecting with the London and Greenwich Railway in Bermondsey and running to West Croydon. It opened in 1839, and included a short atmospheric section which proved unsuccessful and was removed in 1846. In the same year the line amalgamated with the London and Brighton to form the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, now part of the Southern Railway.
Original capital £140,000 in £20 shares and loans of £45,000. 5% Preference (Croydon Thirds) shares of £9 each created, and New Shares issued in 1845. Total capital at amalgamation £1,345,000.
