
London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company
Incorporated on 19th August 1921
One of four main railway companies in Great Britain formed by the Railways Act 1921. Its network included the London and North Western, the Midland, the Lancashire and Yorkshire, the Caledonian and many other railways, covering 6,870 miles. The company claimed to be the largest joint stock organisation in the world, and was the UK’s second largest employer following the Post Office.
