Manchester and Birmingham Railway Company
Incorporated on 30th June 1837.
A 45 mile standard-gauge line, planned to run from Manchester to the Grand Junction Railway in Chebsey. The route was only built as far as Crewe (onward travel to Birmingham used existing Grand Junction lines), and the 30 mile line opened in 1842. It amalgamated with the London and Birmingham, and the Grand Junction Railways to form the London and North Western Railway in 1846.
Capital £2,800,000 divided into 30,000 Whole Shares of £40 each; 30,000 Class A Shares of £10 each; 60,000 Class B Shares of £10 each, and 70,000 Class C Shares of £10 each. Loans of £700,000.
