Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal Navigation and Railway Company
Incorporated on 23rd August 1831.
A standard gauge line connecting the towns, built by and following the route of the existing Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal (1791). The railway opened to Bolton in 1838, and on to Bury with the opening of the Manchester, Bury and Rossendale Railway in 1846. The line joined the Manchester and Leeds Railway in 1845, and passed to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.
Capital £898,100 in 6,200 Whole Shares of £125 each, and 6,200 New Shares of £20 each (approx). Loans of £237,730.
