Manchester Ship Canal Railways Company
Incorporated on 6th August 1885.
Opened in 1894 by Queen Victoria, the company eventually worked over 223 miles of railway and was the largest private railway in the UK. It started life as a 23 mile line to connect the newly built Ship Canal with the local industries.
