Incorporated on 23rd July 1884.
An amalgamation of the Swindon, Marlborough and Andover, and the Swindon and Cheltenham Extension Railways, totalling around 63 miles of track. The route provided a connection between the Midland Railway in Cheltenham and the London and South Western in Southampton. It passed to the Great Western Railway at grouping.
Capital at amalgamation: £932,518 in shares, and £742,868 in loans.
