Midland Counties Railway Company
Incorporated on 21st June 1836.
A 57 mile line running from Rugby to Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Derby, proposed initially to provide competition for the Leicester and Swannington Railway for coal transportation in the area. The line opened in 1840, and joined with the Birmingham and Derby Junction and the North Midland Railways to form the Midland Railway in 1844.
Capital £1,000,000 in shares. Loans of £333,000.
