Incorporated on 5th July 1865.
A proposed 8 mile line linking the town with the West Somerset Railway. The original scheme was abandoned, and the West Somerset Railway were authorised on the 29th June 1871 to complete the work. The line opened in 1874 and passed to the Great Western Railway in 1897.
