North Metropolitan Railway Company
Incorporated on 8th July 1853
Re-incorporated on 7th August 1854 as the Metropolitan Railway. Opened between Paddington and Farringdon Street in 1863 as the first underground railway in the country. It was adapted for electric traction in 1905 and amalgamated with the Underground Electric Railways Company of London in 1933.
