North Staffordshire Railway Company
Incorporated on 26th June 1846.
Three separate lines; the Churnet Valley Line from Macclesfield to Burton-on-Trent (49 miles), the Harecastle to Sandbach Line (8 miles), and the ‘Potteries’ Line (38 miles plus branches) which connected with the London and North Western. The company also purchased the Trent and Mersey Canal, and remained independent until grouping with the London, Midland and Scottish Railway.
Original capital £2,900,000 in 168,500 Shares of £20 each, 42s paid. Loans of £1,450,000.
