Peak Forest Tramway
Incorporated on 28th March 1794.
Owned by the Peak Forest Canal Company, built to serve local quarries and allow minerals to be transported to Manchester via the canal. Lines were doubled in 1803 and were operated by the Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway (later the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway). It remained open into the 1920’s.
