St. Helen’s and Runcorn Gap Railway Company
Incorporated on 29th May 1830. A 12 mile line which opened in 1833, used mainly for transporting minerals and goods to the River Mersey. The company amalgamated with the Sankey Brook Navigation Co. and formed the St. Helen’s Canal and Railway in 1845. Passed to the London and North Western in 1864.
Capital £120,000 in shares and £30,000 in loans. Increased to £220,000 in following years.
