St. Helen’s Canal and Railway Company
Incorporated on 16th July 1846. A line to connect the St. Helen’s and Runcorn Gap Railway with the Sankey Canal, which two companies had been amalgamated. It was extended in 1847, and leased a branch of the London and North Western.
Original Capital £240,000 in shares, with loans of £80,000. Additional in 1847 of £159,400 and £53,100, total capital by 1853 £693,400 in shares and £233,100 in loans.
