
Thames Iron Works Shipbuilding and Engineering Company Ltd
Registered 1899. Founded in 1859, the largest shipbuilder on the Thames. It had the distinction of building the first all iron warship in 1860. In the 1880’s a football club was started for its employees which by 1900 was wound up and its name was changed to West Ham United FC. In 1905 the motor department was developed to produce steam wagons and in 1906 a petrol car was launched. Closed in 1912.Dissolved <1932. Company number 62972
Capital £600,000 in 300,000 5% preference shares and 300,000 ordinary shares of £1. Later increased to £800,000.
