Incorporated on 13th August 1859.
Subscribed to by the London and North Western, the Great Western, the London and South Western and the London Brighton and South Coast Railways, all of which were to be connected by the line. It opened in 1863, passing jointly to the Southern, the Great Western, and the London Midland and Scottish companies at grouping.
Original capital £300,000 fully subscribed by the aforementioned companies. Loans of £100,000. Additional capital in 1861 £105,000 in shares, and £35,000 in loans.
