West Somerset Railway Company
Incorporated on 17th August 1857.
A broad gauge line running 14 miles from the Bristol and Exeter Railway to the Bristol Channel. It opened in 1862, worked by the Bristol and Exeter, and therefore passing to the Great Western in 1876.
Original capital £120,000 in shares of £10 each, loans of £40,000. New preference capital of £24,000 raised in 1866 and 1868, and £10,000 in shares or stock in 1889.
