
Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway Company
Incorporated on 4th July 1838
A 46 mile standard gauge line connecting the cities, with junctions with the North British and Caledonian Railways. Opened in 1842, the line was extended a number of times between 1846 and 1850, and was absorbed by the North British Railway in 1865.
Original capital £900,000 and loans of £300,000. Total capital in 1853 £2,373,375 in shares and £1,111,700 in loans.
