
Great North of Scotland Railway Company
Incorporated on 26th June 1846.
A line running approximately 50 miles with smaller branch lines, built in the standard gauge. The line connected with the Aberdeen Railway and was planned to reach Inverness, but it was not built this far, terminating at Elgin. An extension was made in 1846, followed by many more and the company took over a number of other lines in the vicinity, eventually running over 300 miles.
Original capital £1,500,000 in shares of £50 each. Loans of £500,000. Total capital created by 1890, £4,285,481.
