Kilmarnock and Troon Railway Company
Incorporated on 27th May 1808.
A line nearly 10 miles in length, linking the two named towns. It opened in 1811 as a wooden plateway with horse drawn wagons, and was updated to Iron rails in 1815 and again in 1837 when part was tested for locomotive use. The line was leased to the Glasgow, Paisley and Kilmarnock Railway in 1846 who upgraded the line for locomotives, and passed to the Glasgow and South Western in 1899.
