Shotts and Wilsontown Railway Company
Incorporated in 1841. An 8¾ mile extension of the Wishaw and Coltness Railway, the line was re-named the Wilsontown, Morningside and Coltness Railway. Opened in 1845 to provide access to local coal resources (and built in the 4ft 6in ‘Scotch gauge’), the line was taken over by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway and extended to Bathgate.
