Swansea and Mumbles Railway Company Ltd.
Incorporated on 31st March 1879.
Originally incorporated as the Oystermouth Railway in 1804, a 6 mile line to carry mineral traffic between the towns. It was the first railway to carry passengers in the world, commencing in 1807 but ending in 1826, leaving much of the line derelict. It was re-built in the 1850’s and 60’s, and converted for steam power in 1887, worked by the Swansea Improvements and Tramways Company until closing in 1960.
