
Atlantic and Pacific Railroad Company
Incorporated in July 1866 by U.S. Congress as a transcontinental railroad to connect Springfield, Missouri and Van Buren, Arkansas with California. The central section was never built, and the Eastern and Western sections were acquired by the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway and Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway systems.
