The Skoda Works
In 1868 Emil Skoda (1839–1900), a Bohemian engineer acquired a small machinery factory in Pilsen. He developed it into the largest manufacturer of armaments in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Czechoslovakia following WWI. Nationalised by the Czech government at the end of WWII, expanding its production to include motor cars, aircraft, locomotives, railway rolling stock, trams, and buses, to become one of the largest industrial combines in Europe.
